I had the privilege of working on an experimental photographic project that explored the relevance of physical dance practice for society. The project was inspired by the idea of showcasing contemporary dance in its purest form, with a focus on the daily routine of professional dancers and the beauty of their rehearsals.

The project centred around the profile of Cisne Negro Dance Company, which has been taking contemporary dance around the world for 45 years. Through a series of photographs, the book portrayed the physicality and diversity of contemporary dance, and how it can be a powerful form of expression and socialization.

The book aimed to highlight the importance of physical activity, both as an amateur pursuit and as a professional art form. It showcased the rigorous preparation that goes into a dance performance, revealing the behind-the-scenes moments that often go unnoticed.

As a designer, I worked on the visual narrative of the book, ensuring that the photographs were arranged in a way that captured the essence of contemporary dance. I also took part in the photographs, created the layout of the book and chose typography that complemented the images.

“Of all the arts, dance is the only one that dispenses materials and tools, depending only on the body.”

Through this project, I was able to explore the possibilities of visual storytelling and the power of design to communicate complex ideas. I hope that this book inspires others to appreciate the art and beauty of dance and the importance of physical activity in our daily lives.
