I had the opportunity to work on a specialisation project that focused on producing an object book, a type of book that amplifies the reading ability of each reader and is known by different nomenclatures such as the book of art, book of the artist, and book-work. The project was inspired by the poets, writers, and designers from the concrete poetry movement, a period of great changes in design, where poems were transformed into visual objects.
My project specifically was to create a book of pop-up illustrations and poetry related to loving feelings, with poems by Paulo Leminski (1944-1989). The aim was to present a new way of presenting poetry to the current audience who have easy access to information, by working on the possibilities of integrating graphic design, manual cutting techniques, collage, paper overlays, and poetry.
As the designer and editor of the project, I was responsible for the creation, editing, and reorganization of content in the publishing sector. I emphasized the importance of visual narratives based on the fundamentals of graphic design and how they can impact the reading experience for the audience.
The book I designed was a true labour of love, incorporating different design elements and techniques to create a visually stunning and emotionally impactful reading experience. The pop-up illustrations added a new dimension to the poems, making the reading experience more immersive and engaging.
Overall, this project was a true test of my design skills and creativity, and I am honoured by the end result. It is a testament to the power of graphic design to elevate and enhance the reading experience, and I am excited to continue exploring new ways of using design to communicate complex ideas and emotions.
