I was honoured to create a collection of tropical pattern designs inspired by Brazilian fauna and flora where I came from. Brazil is well-known for its diversity of Amazonian botanical plants and animals, and these elements served as the primary inspiration for the collection.
To add further depth to the project, I drew inspiration from the work of Roberto Burle Marx, a Brazilian landscape architect, painter, naturalist, and ecologist. Marx’s designs of parks and gardens made him world-famous, and his work had a significant influence on tropical garden designs in the 20th century. By incorporating elements of Marx’s work, I was able to create a unique and distinctive collection that captured the essence of Brazil’s natural beauty.
In addition to Marx’s influence, I also drew inspiration from the Fauvism style of art, which emphasizes painterly qualities and strong colour over realistic value and fierce brushwork. The use of vibrant colours and bold brushstrokes gave the collection a distinctive visual appeal that sets it apart from more traditional designs.
Overall, I’m proud of the final product and the contribution it makes to the world of design. Creating this collection gave me the opportunity to expand my boundaries and limitations as an illustrator and fashion designer to develop something that can be applied on diverse surfaces for all groups of clients.
